Security: 6Gb/s SAS Zoning

Security 6Gb/s SAS Zoning

With expanded zoning functionality 6Gb/s SAS ensures your data is safe and easily managed. The SAS protocol allows topologies of over 16,000 devices in a domain consisting of multiple host or client servers. To optimize the use of large topologies, zoning has been introduced as a mechanism to partition a SAS domain into groups with management controls for access between groups. SAS zoning offers a method for managing scalability by controlling interconnection access between devices.

For example, zoning can be used for systems with both SAS and SATA devices. SATA devices have an inherently different reliability and data access profile speeds. It is common to separate these different device classes so that high-availability data is stored on SAS drives, while reference and backup data is stored on the SATA drives.
