1. What are the RoHS compliant part numbers?
For communication and storage products (devices with PMXXXX part numbers), a "G" will be inserted as the second letter in the part suffix. For example, the PM4354-NI part RoHS compliant version is PM4354-NGI. For microprocessors (devices with RMXXXX part numbers) refer to the following table for RoHS compliant suffix. A suffix 'E' indicates that a RoHS compliant FCBGA device useing Pb-free die solder bumps, for example, PM8010B-F3EI.

The RoHS compliant version of the HDMP-XXXX products has a suffix "G" at the end of the part number. For example, HDMP-1636AG.

Different part numbers are used for RoHS compliant Tachyon series of products (HPFC-XXXX).



2. Is my part available in RoHS compliant format?
Please contact your local sales representative for RoHS compliant device availability. Find your local representative.


3. Is PMC-Sierra going to EOL the current Pb containing product and convert all devices to RoHS compliant devices?
There are no plans to EOL the Pb containing packages. RoHS has an exemption for communication devices which some of our customers plan on using. The exemption is to 2010, so PMC intends to supply the current material sets as long as our suppliers support them.


4. Are current (Pb containing) products compatible with the Pb-free reflow process?
No, PMC-Sierra has only qualified our Pb containing products to a maximum reflow of 225 C. PMC has not and has no intention of qualifying current products to a higher reflow temperature. This would likely involve the change of material sets for assembly.


5. Where can I find moisture sensitivity levels and recommended reflow profile information?
It is PMC-Sierra's goal to qualify RoHS compliant packages to a maximum reflow as outlined in the JEDEC reflow standard. Please refer to the document:    PMC-2040933 [226 KB] Moisture Sensitivity Levels and Recommended Reflow Profiles for PMC-Sierra Devices.


6. Are any PMC-Sierra products exempt from RoHS?
For networking applications our current (Pb containing) devices may be exempt but that is the responsibility of the customer to determine if their product will be exempt. For our flip chip device there is an exemption for the use of Pb for the bump (interconnect) and PMC-Sierra flip chip devices will use high-Pb bumps for the RoHS compliant flip chip package.
