Features
MODES OF OPERATION
- Single chip 4-channel DS-3/E3/J2 framer and ATM/bit-HDLC mapper into POS-PHY/Utopia interface. Each channel can be individually configured for the desired rate and data format.
- Provides synchronization and desynchronization of DS-3 and E3 serial streams to and from SONET/SDH payloads.
- Implements ATM or byte-HDLC User Network Interface on SONET/SDH payloads including STS-1/STM-0/STS-3c/STM-1 into POS-PHY/Utopia interface.

- May be configured solely as a DS-3, E3 (G.751 and G.832), and J2 framer.
- Allows external sub-rate DS-3/E3/J2 processing for all four channels.

FEATURES
- Provides four DS-3/E3/J2 clock and data serial ports for direct connection to external line interface units.
- Provides four auxiliary serial ports when using the device as a DS-3, E3, or J2 framer.
- Provides four serial flexible bandwidth links allowing bit-HDLC/ATM cell delineation of data rates up to 52 Mbit/s.
- Provides an 8-bit 77.76 MHz TelecomBus to interface with transport devices such as framers or switch elements.
- Provides support for the SATURN POS-PHY / UTOPIA 16-bit Level 2 / 32-bit Level 3 system interface for ATM and HDLC packet data.
- Implements the ATM Forum user Network Interface Specification and the ATM physical layer for broadband ISDN according to CCITT Recommendation I.432 on arbitrary SONET/SDH payloads including STS-1/STM-0/STS-3c/STM-1 payloads.
- Implements the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over SONET/SDH specification according to RFC 2615 and RFC 1662 on arbitrary STS-1/STM-0 payloads.
- Implements ATM Direct Cell Mapping or bit-HDLC Mapping into DS1, DS-3, E1, E3, and J2 transmission systems according to ITU-T Recommendation G.804.

- Implements the Physical Layer Convergence Protocol (PLCP) for DS1 and DS-3 transmission systems according to the ATM Forum User Network Interface Specification, ANSI TA-TSY-000773, TA-TSY-000772, and E1 and E3 transmission systems according to ETSI 300-269 and ETSI 300-270.
- Compatible with PMC-Sierra T1/E1 frame/line interface chips such as the TEMUX and TEMAP devices for DS1 and E1 applications. Provides programmable pseudorandom test pattern generation, detection, and analysis features. Provides integral transmit and receive data-link HDLC controllers with 128-byte FIFO depths for each serial channel.
- Provides performance-monitoring counters suitable for accumulation periods of up to 1 second.
- Provides a 16-bit microprocessor interface for configuration, control and status monitoring.
- Provides a standard 5-signal P1149.1 JTAG test port for boundary scan board test purposes.
- Low power 3.3V / 1.8V CMOS technology with 5V tolerant inputs.
- Available in a high density 580-pin TSBGA package (35 mm x 35 mm) with 1mm ball pitch.
