Overview
The QuadPHY FC (PM8356) Evaluation
Kit (PM2375-KIT) allows evaluation of
the PM8356 QuadPHY FC SERDES
with SFP MSA compliant 1G/2G Fibre
Channel optical transceivers as well as
signal integrity measurements via SMA
coaxial connectors.
You may use this kit in conjunction with
external test equipment or you may use
the built-in data generator and checker
of the QuadPHY FC.
This kit consists of two circuit boards: a
PCI Host Card that plugs into an
available PCI slot and an Evaluation
Card that provides SFP sockets and
high-speed components. The two cards
are connected together via a ribbon
cable (supplied).
A Windows-based GUI provides access
to all hardware functions and status
information.
EVALUATION CARD
The evaluation card connects to the PCI
Host Card via a ribbon cable. No
additional signal or power connectors
are required. Alternatively, the evaluation
card may be powered from an
external power supply and controlled via
a USB interface.
This card contains the QuadPHY FC
SerDes device, a Xilinx Virtex(tm)-E
FPGA for MDIO control and datapath
loopback capability, clock circuitry,
HSSDC (Style 2) connectors, SFP transceiver
sockets, and a high-density Tyco
backplane connector.
The approximate dimensions of the
evaluation card are 20 cm by 20 cm.
PCI HOST CARD
The PCI host card plugs into a standard
personal computer PCI slot. Connectors
on this card provide control signals and
power for the evaluation card.
The approximate dimensions of the host
card are 10 cm by 15 cm.

The demonstration software supplied
with the QuadPHY FC Evaluation Kit
provides a graphical user interface with
support for the following major functions:
- Access to registers in QuadPHY FC
device.
- Automated user-defined configuration
of all devices using TCL scripts.

- Direct low-level read/write access to
the QuadPHY FC via the GUI.
- Status and mode indicators for the
QuadPHY FC.

The QuadPHY FC Evaluation Kit contains the following

The following items are required for operation of the kit and must
be supplied by the user:
- Personal computer with available PCI slot, running Windows
2000 or Windows NT 4.0.

Personal computer with available USB Port, running Windows
2000.
