PM2376-KIT QuadPHY® 1G Evaluation Kit
Documents
Overview
The QuadPHY 1G (PM8354) Evaluation
Kit (PM2375-KIT) allows evaluation of
the PM8354 QuadPHY 1G SERDES
with SFP MSA compliant Gigabit
Ethernet transceivers and enables signal
integrity measurements made via SMA
coaxial connectors.
The FPGA on the evaluation board can
be used to source fixed test patterns
(K28.5, K28.7) to the QuadPHY 1G for
jitter measurements. The built-in data
generator and checker of the QuadPHY
1G may also be used to generate/check
traffic. Alternatively an external data
generator (BERT) can be used to
generate traffic and be looped through
the QuadPHY 1G device using a parallel
loopback.
A Windows-based GUI provides access
to all hardware functions and status
information via a USB connection.
EVALUATION CARD
The evaluation card connects to a
Windows based laptop or desktop
computer via a USB connection. The
board may be powered using a 5V DC
bench power supply or with an standard
PC ATX power supply.
The evaluation card contains a Xilinx
Virtex-E FPGA which is used to provide
fixed test patterns on the transmit
parallel interface and to provide both
register and pin control of the QuadPHY
1G device. Two channels of the
QuadPHY 1G are routed to SMA
connectors, two channels are routed to
the SFP 1000Base-SX transceivers and
four channels are routed to the TYCO
HM-Zd backplane connector.
The approximate dimensions of the
evaluation card are 20 cm by 20 cm.
BACKPLANE ADAPTER
CARD
A backplane adaptor card is included
with the kit. This adaptor card has 20"
and a 40" backplane lengths which pass
through a HS3 connector. The inputs
and outputs to the adaptor card are
through SMA connectors.
