Overview
PMC-Sierra's Secure VoIP Phone Reference Design for the consumer
wired VoIP phone and secure Wi-Fi VoIP phone belongs to an extensive
family of Multi-Service Processor (MSP)-based VoIP solutions.
The hardware platform is built around the MIPS-powered MSP2020
multi-service processor, and includes an embedded Linux operating
system (OS) together with voice-processing firmware and codecs. The
MSP2020 multi-service processor allows for a new level of price performance
for customer premises VoIP Phone products as it eliminates the
need for a separate processor, voice processing DSP, security chip, and
multiple Ethernet MACs. The fully integrated design simplifies the
design of the phone application and reduces the overall bill of materials
- thereby enabling service providers to bring a unique and differentiated
secure VoIP product quickly to market.
The reference design can be used for a consumer wired VoIP phone with
Ethernet WAN and optional Ethernet LAN and Fax ports. The phone
reference design can also be wireless capable, with Wi-Fi Protected
Access (WPA) enhanced security and IEEE 802.11 b/g technology,
allowing secure deployment at the local access point in any wireless
network environment. The high performance system's architecture
includes on-chip security and scales to voice and data applications
with easy porting of customer and third-party software and protocol
stacks.
