Features
OVERVIEW
The MSP7150 is a multi-service communication SoC that enables fiber
access gateways for the FTTH market. The MSP7150 as part of PMC's
MSP7100 Series of multi-service processors provides the capabilities
to underpin a complete range of RGs with a key set of interfaces, and,
critically, a common architecture with shared software and service
definitions. This universal RG family scales from cost optimized
ADSL/2/2+, and VDSL2, to the high performance of GPON/EPON applications.
The MSP7150 chipset addresses superior datapath performance,
application support, and robust voice processing with industry
leading cost/performance. The chipset provides a seamless interface
with PMC-Sierra's family of CPE PON devices to achieve a managed
digital home with the gigabit boost required for IPTV.
This new breed of RG processor ensures simultaneous functionality
for voice, video, and data resulting in broadband service guarantees.
The MSP7150's superior packet processing and QoS performance with
advanced remote management capabilities addresses evolving use
cases and provides carriers the ability to control in-home service
distribution, which is essential for a zero-effort consumer experience.
As well, the MSP7150 has the processing headroom to support service
application processing.
The MSP7150's high performance multi-threaded (MT) 7100 Series
core delivers dynamic multifunction guarantees for the flexible
allocation of resources. Combined with three 10/100/1000 GE MACs,
dual USB 2.0 interfaces, and a DDR1/2 memory interface, this powerful
engine provides the necessary performance and connectivity for
service revenue generating central broadband portal.
The MSP7150 includes a Linux software development kit containing PMC Sierra's
Fast-Data-Path, which is designed for the QoS requirements of
triple -play RGs.

BENEFITS
Exceptional simultaneous processing behaviors are essential for
triple play and the evolution to true multi-service deployments. PMCSierra's
RG solution enables complex traffic management, routing,
bridging, and firewall tasks concurrently with the ability to support
processing guarantees for voice, video, and data services. These
simultaneous processing capabilities ensure critical quality of
experience (QoE) for all broadband service deployments.
- Multi-function core
- Enables guaranteed flexible networking performance
with a significant throughput improvement compared
to single-threaded processors
- Dynamic reassignment of processing cycles between
diverse functions of the multi-service digital home
with cycle guarantees for robust QoE
- Processing power
- The MT 7100 Core achieves industry-leading
processing power
- Provides essential headroom to address
requirements for evolving services, service
bandwidth, and digital home infrastructure: stronger
management/control, interworking of HAN
technologies for end-to-end QoS, and gateway
application processing
- Multi-service networking

Software
The MSP7150 is supported by a Linux software development kit (7100
Series RG SDK). The SDK enables designers to quickly and easily build
high-performance, feature-rich gateways.
The SDK includes a voice processing module (VPM) VoIP firmware
suite.
The MSP7150 and SDK are supported by standard tools from industry
leading vendors as well as GNU development tools (compiler,
debugger, EJTAG support, etc.)
For more details about the software development environment, refer
to the MSP7100 Series SDK Product Brief.
