PMC-Sierra GE-PON VDSL Gateway Solution

The PAS6201 EPON ARM9 ONU can provide support for VDSL service to multiple dwelling unit (MDU) or multiple tenant unit (MTU) locations that need very high-speed DSL services. The PAS6201 provides a gigabit interface between the PON network link to the central office, and multiple VDSL ports connected throughout a business or building.

The PAS6201 device requires only a few external devices to complete the FTTH to VDSL gateway design -- low-cost RAM, Flash ROM, an optical transceiver, and a multiport VDSL switch/PHY device. Wth these devices, the PAS6201 ONU provides the full gigabit per second bandwidth of IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile specification for a compact, multiport, multiservice VDSL gateway application.

Fiber based PON networks deliver the same types of services as DSL and VDSL services, but with far greater bandwidth, 1,000 times or more bandwidth compared to DSL, 1 gigabit per second versus 300 kilobits to 1.5 megabits per second, and several times more bandwidth than VDSL, 1 gigabit per second versus 5 to 50 megabits per second.
