PMC-Sierra GE-PON Single-port ONU Solution

The single-port ONU is the lowest-cost solution for gigabit Fiber to the Home applications. The PAS6201 ONU is used to provide a gigabit interface between the PON network to the central office equipment and the Ethernet port that connects to the user's PC or network.

The PAS6201 ONU device requires only a few devices to complete an entire FTTH modem design - low-cost external RAM and Flash ROM, an optical transceiver, and an Ethernet PHY or physical layer interface device. With these few devices, the PAS6201 ONU provides the full gigabit per second bandwidth of IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile specification in a reliable, highly integrated package.

A FTTH modem behaves like a standard DSL modem, but provides 1,000 times more bandwidth, 1 gigabit per second versus 300 kilobits to 1.5 megabits per second.
