PMC-Sierra GE-PON Residential Gateway Solution

The PAS6201 ONU can provide triple-play services for IP TV, high-speed Internet connection and voice services to multiple Ethernet ports for multiple PCs and televisions. The PAS6201 ONU is ideal for implementing a FTTH residential gateway that provides a gigabit interface between the PON network to the central office equipment, multiple Ethernet ports that connect to customer PCs, TVs, and other Ethernet equipment, and through SLIC circuits, to standard telephones.

The PAS6201 ONU device requires only a few external devices to complete the FTTH gateway design -- low-cost RAM, Flash ROM, an optical transceiver, an Ethernet 5-port or 8-port switch/PHY device, a DSP chip and a SLIC circuit. With these devices, the PAS6201 ONU provides the full gigabit-per-second bandwidth of IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile specification for a compact, multiport, multiservice residential gateway application.

A FTTH modem behaves like a standard DSL modem, but provides 1,000 times more bandwidth, 1 gigabit per second versus 300 kilobits to 1.5 megabits per second. A residential gateway can simultaneously provide voice services and support IP TV services as well.
