PMC-Sierra GE-PON Multiport ONU Solution

The multiport ONU has four ports of Fast Ethernet and two to four RJ-11 telephone ports. It includes a single PAS6201 ONU device, a four-port Fast Ethernet switch, RAM, Flash ROM and a RJ-11 telephony interface. The PAS6201 ONU device is an excellent solution for this application because it results in a low bill of materials cost, provides a high performance ARM9 CPU to execute application software, can be integrated with standard embedded operation system software and integrates easily with low-cost Fast Ethernet switch devices. A multiport ONU can be used to provide a gigabit PON network interface between the central office equipment and the Ethernet ports and telephone jacks that connect a user to the Internet and to the communications network.

The PAS6201 ONU device device requires only a few external devices to complete the entire FTTH modem design - low-cost external RAM and Flash ROM, an optical transceiver, and an Ethernet switch/PHY device and the RJ-11 interface. With these few devices, the PAS6201 ONU device provides the full gigabit per second bandwidth of IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile specification in a reliable, highly integrated package.
