The PAS6201 ONU can provide multiple dwelling unit (MDU) or multiple tenant unit (MTU) service for business locations that need high-grade voice services and multiple Ethernet ports for multiple Ethernet based equipment in many different sublocations in the building or business. The PAS6201 ONU is ideal for implementing a FTTH business gateway that provides a gigabit interface between the PON network link to the central office, and multiple Ethernet ports that connect to Ethernet equipment throughout a business or building, and through standard CEP circuits, to T1 telephone lines.

The PAS6201 ONU device requires only a few external devices to complete the FTTH business gateway design - low-cost RAM, Flash ROM, an optical transceiver, an Ethernet 24-port switch/PHY device, and a standard CEP circuit. With these devices, the PAS6201 ONU provides the full gigabit-per-second bandwidth of the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile specification for a compact, multiport, multiservice business gateway application.

A FTTH modem behaves like a standard DSL modem, but provides 1,000 times more bandwidth, 1 gigabit per second versus 300 kilobits to 1.5 megabits per second. A business gateway can simultaneously provide voice services and high-speed Internet access services to multiple departments or tenants.
